Café Ringmer cashmob

Today I failed to turn up to my own cashmob. We haven't done a cashmob for quite a while, dueto me being too busy to organise them, but we did a special for the opening of the Ringmer Café. Several mobbers made it and the photos below are proof of enjoyment. The panini was, I am told, excellent. I still haven't tried the Turkish breakfast, so I may have to carry out an individual cashmob during the week.

All the pics are indoors; I'm told it was too hot to sit outside. But an awning is planned.

The reason for my absence was that I developed double vision on Friday. By the time I'd decided to do something about it, it was too late to see a GP so they insisted that I had to go to casualty (Friday night!!!!!). And I was banned from driving. So I got the bus in and spent a pleasant evening in casualty with lots of other people (no irony intended there - it was actually not unpleasant); got thoroughly tested and they eliminated all the worst possibilities, and I just caught the last bus back. They said I had to attend the eye hospital on Saturday morning. The doctor gave me pages of notes, which the eye hospital doctors couldn't read. (The irony of that: doctors not being able to read other doctors' writing.....) So while my noble mobbers were tucking into Café breakfasts, I was having anaesthetic poured into my eyes prior to them being pressure tested. Lots more tests followed, and the upshot is they say it's a muscle problem, treatable and curable. But I have to wait for a summons to see a specialist. Thanks to everybody who has given me their best wishes - much appreciated.

And if I'm not driving anywhere in the next few weeks, I may have time to organise some more cashmobs.

Edited 20 July 2015 to add bottom two pictures.

Cashmobbing the pet shop

We cashmobbed the pet shop last weekend, and put a little money in their coffers.

I got a refillable catnip mouse which has proved to be very popular.

Others took away cat food, bird food, and hedgehog food.

November's cashmob

It rained. We discovered that the weather and the light have a big effect on custom at Ringmer Wine Store - if it rains or it's dark, customers don't come. So we were pleased to provide Daniel with a little bit of an extra boost on a very rainy day.

Here's the shop front, looking very clean in the rain.

They don't just sell alcohol here. Locally produced Christmas puds.

Flowers as well.

Very tasty locally made frozen meals.

Chutney and all sorts of knick knack.

Daniel about to sample a cake stick: a ball of cake covered in chocolate, on a stick, intended to accompany your coffee. Made in the village. I've tried one. It works. I will be going back for more.

Cashmob number 2

We cashmobbed Middleton's on October 6th. It was a kind of chronologically elongated cashmob. The idea is to get together at the same time so we can natter and enjoy each other's company as well as buy something, but people had all sorts of different commitments, so there was a steady trickle into the shop during the morning. Sort of a cashtrickle rather than cashmob. We bought socks, cards, paper, toys, and all sorts of things. Here is Peter Gardiner with a natty pair of socks.

Cashmobs

Saturday's cashmob - Ringmer's first - was very successful, with more than a dozen people turning out to support Lew's butchers.

The purpose of the cashmob is explained in more detail a couple of posts back, but basically the idea is to have some fun and to support local shops. This first one was an experiment to see if it worked and if there was enthusiasm for repeating the idea. There clearly was, so we will be meeting again in the shopping precinct in about a month's time - more details will follow. It was also notable from my extremely unscientific survey that people were keen to spread the benefits of the cashmob to local outlets other than those in the shopping precinct, which is good news for all of our local retailers. Cashmobs

Perhaps an idea whose time has come. A recent invention, which the LCR house mob think would be good to try in Ringmer.  The idea of a cashmob is to do some good for local shops and have some fun at the same time. For more information email lowcarbonringmer at gmail dot com.

More details will follow, but for now, here are some links to more information:
